Bathgate’s Paul Di Resta maintained his bid to win the German Touring Car Championship when he posted the fourth-quickest in pre-qualifying for the latest round of the series at Barcelona.
The 22-year-old, currently second in the championship and bidding to lift the title in just his second season leading the Mercedes-Benz team, lapped the 1.8-mile Spanish circuit in 1min 08.494secs.
“Everything’s getting very tight and close as the championship edges to its conclusion,” Di Resta, just nine points behind the Audi of championship leader Timo Scheider with three races remaining, said today.
“I’ve got to go for the win this weekend and close the gap on Timo. But it’s going to be very tough simply because he’s so consistent and keeps scoring podiums.”
Scheider was fastest in today’s session clocking 1:07.935s ahead of the Audi’s of team-mates Tom Kristensen and Mattias Ekström.
