MCE British Superbike Championship only one week away!

The MCE British Superbike Championship rolls into Knockhill in just 8 days time and Scots race fans are in for an absolute treat as the UK’s premier motorcycle race series heads North for its one-and-only visit to Scotland in 2016 over the weekend of 24 to 26 June.

Even in the off season, the Championship saw some major announcements. Shane Byrne and the all-conquering PBM team switching from Kawasaki to Ducati machinery, with factory backing. World Superbike star, Leon Haslam returning to the series onboard a JG Speedfit Kawasaki; former BSB Champion Tommy Hill returning to the grid with his own team; securing the front-running services of Stuart Easton and John Hopkins; and all this, before a wheel had turned.

Four rounds into the season and the ingredients for a stellar year are beginning to formulate. Five different race winners already this season; aboard three different makes of machine (Kawasaki, BMW and Ducati – with Byrne taking victory last time out at Brands Hatch, a first for team’s Ducati Panigale R in Superbikes); eight different names on the podium; and, throw in a fistful of close, dramatic racing with the margins between the top riders closer than ever; it really is shaping up to be a pulsating season, and one which is proving difficult to predict.

Add Knockhill, a place that traditionally sends the form-book out the window and a place that tends to see stunning elbow-to-elbow action throughout the field; so we could justifiably admit that everything looks in place for a thrilling weekend of motorsport; we could be set for one of the all-time classic BSB meetings; a thought echoed by Knockhil Events Director, Stuart Gray:

“Well what can you say about the BSB Championship this year? Thrilling, dramatic, inspiring; the list goes on. I know myself and my team, and Scots race fans, are eagerly anticipating this one; and it’s easy to see why.

“Top names, top bikes and top action are pretty-much guaranteed. We’ve also added our usual spin to things this year, as we celebrate 20 years of Superbike racing at Knockhill; all-new spectator bankings will further improve fans viewing and a swathe of additional entertainment will generate a real festival feeling to the weekend.

“Add to the mix a number of genuine Scottish contenders across a number of classes – Stuart Easton (Superbike), Taz Mackenzie (Supersport), Taylor Mackenzie (Stock 1000), and Knochill Club’s Lewis Rollo making great progress in the Superstock 600 Championship; it really is shaping up to be a mouth-watering prospect.”
