Luti eyeing wins as MG Trophy returns to Knockhill

The MG Trophy Championship will return to Knockhill on Sunday 31st July for rounds 9 and 10 of the 2015 Championship season. The MG Trophy, open to MG ZR race cars and race-prepared road cars offers competitors single-make Championship racing spread across three different classes. Similar to SLS, the overall Championship can be won by anyone from each of the three classes – similar to the King of the Hill Championship in Super Lap Scotland powered by Rockstar Energy Drink – whereby race wins in each class determine the overall winner.

Currently the Championship is headed by Class B competitor Lee Sullivan, closely followed by Class A’s Will Payne. Scottish interest in the Championship comes predominantly in the shape of Callendar’s Paul Luti – currently 6th in the standings heading to Knockhill.

Luti, partner in a garage business is hoping to be on the top step of the podium at his home track. The 33 year old, from Callander, has been racing since 2003, and in MG championships throughout the UK since 2007; and finished 3rd in the Championship last season – the 3rd time he has finished in the top three of the series since debuting back in 2007. Luti also has outright class wins to his name taking the overall Class B Championship win back in 2010 (2nd overall that year).

Paul’s eager to see if he can propel his Class B MG ZR to race-winning plaudits ahead of his Class A counterparts. Paul relinquishes 20bhp to the more powerful Class A cars (190bhp Vs 170bhp), however, he reckons the car is good enough for on the road podiums – unless it rains – then the Class A cars will have the upper-hand.

2016 has been a mixed bag for Luti, however, two race wins around Silverstone’s GP circuit has put his title trail back on track and a few favourable results on his home track could go a long way in helping him secure the Class B and overall title win for 2016.

Luti, will be joined by Graham Ross from Crieff and Colin Robertson from Methven; with the trio of Scots hoping to get top honours on the day. The MG Trophy will be racing twice on Sunday 31st July in two 20-lap races. Hopefully, Luti and his fellow Scots can put on a good show in front of their home crowd.

Also featuring on the day will be round 5 of Super Lap Scotland, powered by Rockstar Energy Drink and the British Sprint Championship. In the paddocks we’ll also have a swathe of Subaru and Mitsubishi machinery in our ‘Subaru Vs Mitsubishi’ face-off. Additionally, there will be a few iconic cars on display including Colin McRae’s and Tommi Makinen’s WRC Championship-Winning Impreza and Evo 6.

Tickets for the event can be booked online via the Knockhill website (subject to pre-booking discounts). Alternatively, tickets can be bought on the day of the event at the gate.
