Scottish motor sport fans heading to Knockhill for the British Touring Car Championship this weekend are in for a treat – as Kirkcaldy’s very own Jonny Adam is set to take to the track as a guest driver in the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup!
Adam, who competed in the Airwaves BMW in last year’s British Touring Car Championship and was twice Seat Cupra Champion in 2007 and 2008 will also celebrate his 26th birthday on Saturday.
“What better birthday present than to be out on my home track in front of all my friends and family behind the wheel of a Ginetta G50!
“I’ve tested the car this week, but it’s my first time in a GT car and is slightly different to BTCC-spec touring car. Its great to be trying something new and I can’t wait to get out there and see what I can do,” commented Jonny.
Inside the venue the vast paddock space is beginning to fill up with trucks and marquees housing some of the race machinery that will be on show this weekend.
Another young Fife driver hoping to put in a performance this weekend is Knockhill driving instructor Rory Butcher. Rory will take to the wheel of a Porsche 911 in the Porsche Carrera Cup and is really looking forward to this weekend.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to remind everyone what l can do. Racing in the GT Championship this year has been brilliant and just made me hungrier for more success,” said an excited Butcher.

Jason Plato says Knockhill’s forthcoming round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (Sunday 5 September) is probably the most exciting to watch for trackside fans.
It’s the one opportunity of the year for Scottish motor sport fans to see the UK’s premier race series in action and Plato believes it’s also an event many fans south of the border should make part of their calendar.
The Oxford-based driver commented: “Knockhill is probably the ultimate BTCC circuit. Consider what the BTCC is all about – close, competitive, bumper-to-bumper, rubbing panels, going for the big moves and putting on a show for the public. If you were to sit down and dream up a circuit for the BTCC then Knockhill is probably it.
“It’s a fantastic challenge for the drivers and a fantastic arena for people who love any sport to come and watch. The public can literally smell the action. A few other circuits around the UK allow the crowds to get as close in some areas but not all the way round like Knockhill. It retains a real ‘old school’ feel to it and unlike other circuits hasn’t been toned down.”
Ian Forrest, Knockhill Circuit Manager and Scottish Car racing veteran commented, “If Jason Plato says the track is great then that’s good enough for me. I’ve witnessed a life-time of racing at Knockhill and the BTCC is something else.
“The circuit lends itself perfectly to Touring car Racing and if l cast my mind back l can remember some almighty races over the years.”
As the countdown to the weekend commences, tickets for the event can still be purchased although postal orders have now been switched to a box office collection service. Tickets can be purchased all the way up to the weekend and can be collected at the circuit (main drive, right hand side) on the day. Tickets will also be available on the gate.

With only a matter of days until the Dunlop MSA British Touring Cars take to the Knockhill tarmac for their opening practice session, trucks and support class competitors are already arriving.
Over the next few days the Knockhill paddocks will slowly fill with racing machinery of all makes and sizes. In a welcome return to Knockhill a whole host of Formula Renault single seaters and Renault Clios will also arrive.
The Knockhill rounds of the BTCC Championship could have a major influence on who wins the 2010 title. Fife racer, Gordon Shedden is well aware of this as he attempts to take a sizeable chunk out of Jason Plato’s lead come Sunday.
“I need a strong performance this weekend if l want to win the title, l’m probably looking at a 30 point haul from every weekend from here-on-in.
“We’ll just need to wait and see what the weekend brings, but l’m really excited and can’t wait to get underway,” exclaimed Shedden.
Postal tickets will be on general sale until 3pm tomorrow, before switching to our box office collection service. Booking in advance saves money and online discounts will apply all the way up to the weekend. Tickets will also be available on the gate during Saturday and Sunday.
We’ve also got a interview with Gordon courtesy of BTCC.net!
