2 months to Day of Champions

On the 18th of May 2025, time, and Knockhill, was turned back 50 years to the very day and time that it was officially opened by Formula One star Chris Amon. Champions from the 70s, 80s and 90s gathered for a Parade of Champions as racing stories and rivalries were rekindled. A recreation of the opening ceremony ribbon cutting was done by the guests of honour, as well as classic racing from the early years of Knockhill.

Fast forward to the equivalent day of May 17th 2026, all the champions of car racing from across the five decades are being invited back again to Knockhill for our inaugural "Day of Champions" event. It is anticipated 60 plus champions will be attending, many with their original race cars, for display or taking part in track sessions within a full Scottish Championship race day.

Highlights of this unique event are;

  • 60 plus champions from the 5 decades of Knockhill
  • Display and demos of race cars from the 70s onwards
  • A Parade of Champions and autograph session
  • Karting Legends demo with karts from the 70s, 80s and 90s
  • V10 Pilbeam single seater lap record attempt
  • David Leslie Trophy to be awarded to the most successful classic racer
  • Attendance by the Jim Clark Trust and the Veterans of Scottish Motorsport

Stuart Gray, Chairman of the Knockhill Motorsports Club, said;

"We are thrilled to be invited back the drivers who made Knockhill what it was back in the early days. Many drivers are now in their 70s and 80s but their youthful enthusiasm and banter between them was great to see and listen to last year. Our "Day of Champions" event on May 17th will become the annual gather of Scottish racers, a theme that will highlight the classic racing scene that was so popular back in the day".

"I started racing in 1985 and last year, I met so many of my own racing rivals and many a story were exchanged. My first race car, an MG Midget, was even at the event and took part in the parade. The public loved the trip down memory lane and we are hoping for a similar number of spectators again. It will be a special day, continuing the legacy of those early decades of Knockhill. We really hope that this event will establish itself as the must do event for competitors, and fans, from across the five decades of Knockhill".
