Scotland’s BTCC Stars Start The Season In Strong Form

The 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship got underway at Donington Park, and Scotland’s drivers wasted no time putting themselves firmly in the mix.

The opening round of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park delivered plenty of drama, with Ashley Sutton taking control of the weekend in his Ford Focus.

Sutton left the opener with two race wins and an 18-point championship lead over Charles Rainford, but the Scottish drivers were right there in the fight behind him. After the opening weekend, Aiden Moffat sits 3rd, Gordon Shedden 5th and Dexter Patterson 6th in the championship standings.

It was a particularly positive weekend for Gordon Shedden, who secured a podium finish in race two for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport. The three-time BTCC champion was pleased to start the season with silverware, especially after a challenging opening weekend in previous years.

Reflecting on the weekend, Gordon said it was “a great feeling to start the new season with some silverware” and highlighted the value of leaving Donington Park with a podium, an Independent win, three points finishes and no damage.

Across the three races, the Scots showed strong and consistent pace. Moffat delivered a standout weekend, including a 4th-place finish in race three, while Patterson also scored well across the opening round.

With the season now underway, attention turns to the next rounds as the championship builds towards its annual trip north to Knockhill. If Donington Park is anything to go by, Scottish fans could have plenty to shout about when the BTCC arrives in August.

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship returns to Knockhill on 8th & 9th August for Rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the 2026 season.

Expect door-to-door racing, big moves, airborne action at the chicane and the full Knockhill atmosphere as the BTCC stars take on Scotland’s National Motorsport Centre.
