Safety - Safety is always the overriding consideration in motorsport, so expect a good deal of time to be spent covering this vital topic on the day. Make sure to watch our instructional film before completing your course so that is it fresh in your mind before you complete the course.
Written Test - You will need to sit a 30-minute written test in a classroom environment. This test will cover the relevant section of the Motorsport UK Yearbook: Section Q, Circuit Racing. It will also test your knowledge of the various flags used to communicate important safety information and instructions to competitors out on track. These flags are detailed here and your knowledge of them will need to be 100 per cent accurate to pass the course.
Track Test In addition to the written test you will head out on track with an ARDS examiner in a road car. The examiner will evaluate your ability to lap the circuit in a safe and controlled manner, using the appropriate racing line. There may be other cars on the track at the same time, so you must also demonstrate your ability to circulate among ‘traffic’. Remember, this is not a test of your speed and skill; it is a test of your competency.
Debrief The final step is to debrief with your ARDS Examiner who will stamp and sign your application form if you pass the course successfully. Once stamped, you can then compete and return your form to Motorsport UK to receive your first competition licence.
Honda Civic Type R
Say hello to the most powerful, fastest accelerating, front-wheel-drive car we’ve ever had the pleasure of at Knockhill. The Type R responds instantly to the driver, no hesitation. Underneath the sculpted bonnet lies a four-cylinder VTEC TURBO engine. It’s no surprise to discover this gives the Type R the ability to sprint from 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds and achieve 169 mph top speed. Powering the Type R through the dramatic undulations of our famous racing circuit is exhilarating.

The Knockhill Track
Knockhill Racing Circuit is a thrilling 1.27-mile track, renowned for its adrenaline-pumping twists, turns, and dramatic 200-foot elevation changes. As Scotland's only FIA-graded circuit, it accommodates both car and bike racing in both directions, offering a truly unique motorsport experience. The challenging layout features tight corners, steep climbs, and technical descents, delivering an exhilarating ride for drivers and riders alike.
Knockhill has a rich history in British motorsport, hosting prestigious events like the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and British Superbikes (BSB). Its reputation for being both challenging and rewarding makes it a favorite among racers.
Spectators enjoy panoramic views of the action, thanks to the track’s natural elevation. Whether you're behind the wheel or watching from the stands, Knockhill promises an unforgettable motorsport experience!
An old-school circuit aimed at everyday fans. You can walk the loop around the circuit, and there is general access viewing from what feels like 95% of the walk around the circuit. There is also general access to the infield. For the BTCC this year there were plenty of food and drink vendors scattered around the circuit.
