Jason Plato is officially returning to the BTCC grid with his own outfit, Plato Racing, confirming they will run a pair of Mercedes-AMG A35 Saloons for the 2026 season. The decision follows an intensive R&D phase where the team sized up five different models before landing on the Mercedes. For Plato, the choice was driven by the A35's sleek aerodynamic profile, which he believes offers the strongest foundation for a championship-caliber car.
The operation is getting a significant boost from RML Group, the same engineering powerhouse that helped Plato clinch his 2010 title. RML is currently spearheading the design and build of the two chassis at their Wellingborough facility. Fans won't have to wait long to see the cars in the flesh; the team is aiming for a February shakedown before heading into a busy spring testing schedule at Croft and Brands Hatch, all leading up to the season opener at Donington Park this April.
