The world of rallying is gearing up for one of the biggest celebrations since Colin McRae became Britain’s first World Rally Champion in 1995. The event, will not only commemorate Colin becoming the youngest ever World Rally Champion but also recognise and celebrate the achievements of Jimmy McRae, Alister and 3rd generation rising star Max McRae. Taking centre stage over the weekend will be the second running of the invitational McRae Rally Challenge supported by Beatson's Building Supplies and Event Scotland, last run at Knockhill in 2015.
The McRae Rally Challenge will incorporate a huge variety of rally attractions, combining static displays with dramatic on-stage rally action. The McRae Rally Challenge event is a special invitational for 65 leading national and international rally crews, which will feature two one-day single venue rallies, a Junior rally event and will also see the newly named "McRae's Corner" in use for the very first time. An eagerly awaited feature will be the “Battle of the McRae’s” as three generations of the McRae family compete head-to-head to determine who is the fastest!
World Champions will be present, and competing too, and the first star name on the entry list is non other than Sir Chris Hoy, the six time gold medalist, who will be making his rally debut. Returning is the legend Stig Blomqvist rallying in a Vauxhall Firenza and a host of World Champion navigators.
Another star in attendance is none other than Red Bull backed WRC star Elfyn Evans, the Toyota works driver who will be making a guest appearance (Sunday 3rd only), who will be driving a selection of classic Toyota's and no doubt cheering on his father Gwyndaf who is competing in his own Mk2 Escort. In addition, World Ladies Rally Champions Louise Aitken-Walker and co-driver Tina Thorner will be taking part in the parade of champions in a car she previously competed in.
In 2015 we assembled the largest ever collection of “Colin’s competition cars” ever seen in Scotland which have been driven by the 1995 World Champion during his meteoric career. From his first competition Mini, to the British Championship winning Sierra Cosworth, L555 BAT World Championship winning Subaru and Colin’s project R4 rally car, the display was world class. For the 2022, interest is strong from owners of these historic cars and we are anticipating even more than at the first McRae Rally Challenge to be on display and paraded on track.
Off track, Owners’ Clubs of the cars that Colin rallied, namely Ford and Subaru, including a display of Series McRae road cars, will be gathered to add colour and spectacle to this special event.
Car Show - as part of the weekend we're inviting up to 150 Subaru and Ford Owners' Clubs to join this special celebratory event, including a special display of Series McRae Subarus.
Beatson’s Building Supplies – owned and operated by the Marshall family since 1984 is a building supply company based in Scotland that provides building, electrical, plumbing and heating products via its Alloa, Stirling, Dunfermline, Penicuik and Cumbernauld stores. The company also trades online via the www.beatsons.co.uk website. The Marshall family have a rich motorsport heritage with a number of championship wins in car racing and rallying disciplines. They also have a strong link with Knockhill and we’re delighted to extend this partnership to the McRae Rally Challenge event for the second time.
