A near-record entry list of 54 crews as the new MG3 Rally Championship makes its debut at Knockhill

Border Ecosse Car Club are delighted to confirm that the opening round of the Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship at Knockhill Racing Circuit on Sunday 18th of February has the biggest, quality entry in almost 10 years. With 10 rally stages, all contained within Knockhill, rally fans will be treated to the spectacle of 54 crews, setting off at 30-second intervals, resulting in rally action wherever they look. The unique format sees the event use a combination of the race track, hillside rally stage and perimeter road with some stages stretching to almost 5 miles long.

Heading the entry list is Barry Groundwater (pictured below), Donnie Macdonald, and Ian Forgan, all of whom will be gunning for an outright win. Elsewhere in the entry list, father and son duo Colin Hay (59) and Steven Hay (32) from Glenrothes have entered their family Vauxhall Corsa in Class 2 for up to 1600cc front-wheel drive cars. Both Colin and Steven have rallied the car and have also shared the car with each other fulfilling the role of driver and navigator.

Elsewhere in the entry is the inaugural outing for the MG3 Rally Championship with the 105bhp, 1400cc engined cars. These are the stepping stone for the Junior 1000 Scottish Championship for 14 – 17-year-olds. An incredible 6 cars have entered, supplementing the regular runners in the main championship. Thomas Milne (below, pictured with his co-driver Neil Jeffrey) won the scholarship from the Junior 1000 Championship and is expected to be one of the favourites for the MG3 Rally Championship, despite it being his first season in a larger capacity car.
