Di Resta third fastest at Lausitz

Two weeks after finishing second in the last round of the German Touring Car Championship at Mugello in Italy, Bathgate’s Paul Di Resta maintained his form by being third quickest ahead of this weekend’s counter at the Lausitzring in Germany.

The 22-year-old, again piloting his HWA Mercedes C-Class, lapped the tight and twisty 2.1-mile circuit in 1min 20.224secs, just 0.045s slower than the Audi of provisional polesitter Martin Tomczyk.

“We’ve proved again today that we’ve closed the gap on the Audis,” Di Resta, who was again the fastest Mercedes driver, said today. “Every time we’re out in the car we’re getting quicker and quicker.

“Qualifying on Saturday is important, but we know we have a car capable of beng competitive in the race. Ideally a front row start would be good, but if it’s the second row, then we know we can battle through for at least a podium finish.”

Dane Tom Kristensen was second quickest in his Audi, just 0.007s faster than the Scot who lies fourth in the title race. Championship leader Timo Scheider was fourth fastest, 0.012s behind Di Resta.
