Franchitti to sit-out latest Nascar race

Dario Franchitti’s frustrated period of recuperation after he broke his left ankle in a 180mph crash at Talladega on April 26 will continue after he withdrew his Ganassi Dodge from the latest round of Nascar, the Sprint All-Star Challenge, this weekend.

The 34-year-old from Bathgate had initially been included on the official entry list for the Sprint Showdown qualifying race on Saturday, but his No.40 car has now been removed from the list.

Franchitti, who is known to be keen to get back behind the wheel and go racing, has yet to receive clearance from his doctor to return to competition. Earlier this month he was fitted with a carbon fibre brace which is accelerating his recovery.

Though his condition continues to be monitored on a week-to-week basis, there remains the strong possibility Franchitti will though return to action next weekend (May 25) for the Coca-Cola 600. Earlier this week the team announced new sponsorship deal with Nintendo Wii Fit for his car specifically for that event.
