Bogie storms to another Scottish win

Dumfries rally ace David Bogie continued his bid to win the County Saab Scottish Rally Championship when he powered to victory on the latest round, the Elgin-based Speyside Stages.

The 21-year-old, driving his Toyota Corolla World Rally Car, capitalised on the misfortune of British champ Guy Wilks who was forced to retire with gearbox problems while leading the event.

Wilks in turn was standing in for former Scots champ Dave Weston who forced to pull out after suffering a painful injury to his upper back in the build-up to the Highland event.

Bogie though again showed his terrific potential completing the rally in 43 minutes 27

seconds to finish 10 seconds ahead of championship leader Jimmy Girvan’s Mitsubishi.

Gretna’s Mike Faulkner took the final podium place in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI  in a time of 44 mins 58 secs.

“It’s great to get another win in the championship,” Bogie, who took maximum points at last month’s Scottish Rally, explained afterwards. “We’re clawing back the gap at the top of the championship and we’re not out of the title race yet.”
