Bogie clinches UK title and Rally GB drive

One of Scotland’s most promising rally youngsters, David Bogie, made up for narrowly missing out on the Scottish Rally Championship by clinching the Mitsubishi UK Evolution title in North Wales. In doing so he bagged himself a works drive in Rally GB.

Dumfries ace Bogie, who narrowly lost out in the race for the Scottish title when he was pipped by Inverness veteran Jimmy Girvan in the final round last month, eased himself through the 65-mile Bulldog Rally in the Welsh forests to finish fifth.

“It’s a fantastic way to finish the season,” 21-year-old Bogie, who had already won three rounds of the Mitsubishi Championship,  said today after returning to rally HQ in Oswestry.

“I knew all I had to do was finish fifth to win the title, and though I’d rather have won the event I did all that I had to do. We backed off halfway through just to make sure we got to the end in a winning position.

“To win the Mitsubishi championship is stunning, but to have a full works’ drive in Wales Rally GB in the world championship round in December is a brilliant way to end the year.”
