Adam fired up for BTCC baptism

Fifer Jonathan Adam heads will travel South tomorrow to give his BMW 320is a shakedown ahead of his competitive debut in the opening round of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend.

And the 24-year-old from Kirkcaldy, the double Seat Cupra champion, is eager to mix it with the best tintop drivers in the country.

“It’s going to be a steep learning process this weekend,” Adam, who has already shown his pace by finishing second-fastest in the final test-session at the Kent circuit last week, said today.

“It’s important for me to be in the mix at the front of the field and obviously I’d love to cause an upset. It might take me a wee while to get used to the rough-and-tumble of touring cars, but I’d love to sneak a podium.

“There’s a good buzz in the team after the pace we showed at the test at Brands,” Adam, who will be partnered by Rob Collard in the team’s two-car assault on the championship, continued. “Now I have to go out and do the business.”
