Bogie ready to start title push

Fresh from his first podium finish in the British Rally Championship, Dumfries 21-year-old David Bogie steps up his bid to be crowned Hankook Scottish Rally Champion when he tackles tomorrow’s Aberdeen-based Granite City Rally.

Bogie, who finished third in last weekend’s Carlisle-based Pirelli International Rally, will swap his Mitsubishi Evo X for a GpN Evo IX as he bids to repeat his success in the Granite from 12 months ago.

“We bagged maximum points last year and that’s exactly what I want to achieve again this weekend,” Bogie said today as he put together his final preparations for the third round in the Scottish Championship, which has attracted a bumper entry of 117 crews.

“I’ve good knowledge of the stages. They’re quite technical, so they should suit the Group N car. We’ve got some good points in the bag already after the two opening rounds, so now we can afford to go out and push a bit harder and get that first win of the season.”

Solid performances in the opening round, the Snowman, and last month’s Border Counties mean Bogie starts today’s event second in the championship, just one point behind the Subaru of Oban’s Willie Bonniwell.

The pair though face stiff competition in the 45-mile battle through the Kincardineshire forests from defending champ Jimmy Girvan. After a non-finish in the Snowman, the Invernessian stormed to victory in the Border Counties.
