Oly aims to dump Mini Germans

Scotland’s Oly Mortimer, who won the opening two rounds of the British Mini Championship at Rockingham a fortnight ago, will go head-to-head with the leading Mini racers from Germany in a special one-off appearance at Silverstone later this month.

The 24-year-old from Edinburgh, a former British champion, has received an invitation from Mini manufacturers BMW to guest drive in the German Mini Championship at the official celebration of Mini’s 50th anniversary on May 22-24.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to put myself in the shop window and take on the best Mini racers from Germany and the rest of Europe,” Mortimer, who normally drives a Mark Fish Motorsport-prepared Mini Cooper S, admitted today.

“I made a good start to the season at Rockingham with two wins and a second place, but the competition in the Mini Championship is tough. The drive at Silverstone will hugely competitive but hopefully I can give the British fans something to cheer about.”
