BTCC stars to entertain during Edinburgh Festival

The British Touring Car Championships invade Edinburgh City Centre tomorrow from midday to 2pm (Thursday 13th August). Current championship leader Colin Turkington with his RAC BMW will be present and he will be accompanied by a host of other stars including Fabrizio Giovanardi, James Thompson, Jonathan Adam and Gordon Shedden.

Former double Champion John Cleland will be a guest of honour at tomorrow’s Dunlop British Touring Car Festival in Edinburgh. Alongside Cleland will be the Lord Provost of Edinburgh George Grubb who has the special privilege of waving off the first Touring Car to race along Johnston Terrace.

Cleland said, “There’s a right good mix of cars, drivers and teams and it’s also a very interesting championship at the minute.

“Plus of course the Scottish crowd is always very patriotic and this year you’ve got two guys in the BTCC from Scotland in Gordon Shedden and Jonathan Adam who are going to be there in Edinburgh as well. It’s going to be a cracker of an event.”

Commenting on the Dunlop sponsored event in the heart of Edinburgh, the Lord Provost said, “Edinburgh’s Johnston Terrace is definitely the place to be this Thursday. I’m sure we’ll see thousands of people thronging the street to see their motor racing heroes showing off their driving prowess in the heart of the festival city. This is a fantastic and exciting spectacle and we’re thrilled to welcome the BTCC to Edinburgh once again”.

Fans will have the opportunity to meet the BTCC stars at the Dunlop Cafe on Castle Terrace from midday before the stars demonstrate their race machines from 1.00pm.

Admission to this event is free.
