Scottish Stars Line Up BTCC Assault

Fifers Gordon ‘Flash’ Shedden and Jonathan Adam put in some stunning laps during today’s qualifying session for the HIQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).  The three races of round 7 of the prestigious saloon car series will be fought out on the infamous twists and turns of Scotland’s national motorsports centre tomorrow (Sunday 15 August 2009).

Shedden, driving the vivid green and yellow Seat of the Cartridge World Carbon Zero Racing team took a front-row spot on the grid in a fiercely fought 30 minute qualifying session.  He starts from second just 7/10ths of a second behind Jason Plato in the Racing Silverline Chevrolet Lacetti.

BTCC rookie Jonny Adam was hot on the tail of local rival Shedden and starts from third in tomorrow’s race, only 4/10ths behind Flash.

Flash said: “It is mega to be starting from the front row of the grid at my home track after a disappointing last round at Snetterton.  We’re slower on the straights than the Chevrolets but I made up time throwing the car into the corners, absolutely on the limit.  There’s going to be some bumper to bumper racing tomorrow – the fans are in for a treat!”

Shedden is a past winner at Knockhill and could grab a second win at the track tomorrow.  He’s racked up 10 wins in the championship as well as 16 fastest laps and well over 20 podium finishes.  Adam is double Seat Cupra champion and landed a race seat in the BTCC this year with Airwaves BMW.

Adam said: “This is my best ever qualifying result in the BTCC and I was the fasted BMW driver of the day.  It’s great to be up there with Gordon and an amazing spectacle for our Scottish fans that two Scots are in with a chance of a win.  I had a small off at the beginning of the session but got quicker and quicker as the minutes ticked by.”

Jillian Shedden, Knockhill’s managing director said: “The crowds have been swelling since Friday with many fans camping on-site throughout the weekend.  With the weather forecast looking good, top Scot’s talent in with a real chance of some podiums, and maybe even a win, we’re all set for one of the best BTCC race-days yet at Knockhill.”
