Bogie aims to close out Scottish title

Scotland’s most promising young rally ace, 22-year-old David Bogie, lines up to Saturday’s penultimate round of the Hankook Scottish Championship, the Newton Stewart-based Merrick Stages knowing victory would all but clinch the title.

The Dumfries youngster, currently tied on points with Lockerbie’s Mike Faulkner, clinched his second win of the year in the last round in Elgin and is hoping to show he has matured and learned from his experiences of 12 months ago.

“Last year I was pushing for the championship at this same stage, and I pushed it too far,” Bogie explained today. “We crashed and absolutely totalled the car. It was a complete wreck.”

Indeed such was the damage that the Toyota Corolla World Rally Car was only repaired in time for last month’s Speyside Rally. Now Bogie, and Hawick co-driver Kevin Rae. are looking for back-to-back victories.”Aye, that’s the aim,” he continued. “But it’s not  going to be easy. The main thing is we have to beat Mike – it’s as simple as that. And I’d love to do it before the final round in Perth next month.

“But we both know how tight it is: f someone slips up and makes even a small mistake,

then that’s their championship hopes more or less over”. The sentiments are shared by Faulkner.

“The competition is that close, there’s no room for taking it easy to see what happens,” the Mitsubishi driver, also a double-winner this season, said. “Like David, I know I have to beat him. We’re in for a hell of a weekend.”
