Stars Drop in as Season Comes to a Crashing Finale

Some of the biggest names in Scottish motor sport dropped in to Knockhill today (Sunday 18th) to see the finale of the SMRC 2009 Championship year. Double Le Mans winner Allan McNish watched the action, his first in his position as President of the Scottish Motor Racing Club. Robin Liddell originally from Edinburgh and one of the USA’s top Sports Car drivers won two out of the three Mini Cooper races and spectating was Johnny Adam, the Airwaves BMW Touring Car driver.

All three witnessed one of the best and most entertaining race meeting of the year. Championships were finalised with Scott Fraser winning the Scottish Formula Ford Newcomers Championship over debutant Carol Brown, and Russell Paterson clinched the Scottish Classic Sports and Saloon Championship in his stunning Morgan.

It was not plain saling for all however as Edinburgh driver Euan Wilson had a rather eventful first race, with a roll at the first corner, the car finally coming to rest after flipping four times. This brought out the red flag causing the race to be re-started. Once underway, veteran Peter Cruikshank won the XR2 race with Rory Bryant completing another dominant drive by winning the Fiesta ST class.

Pictured here is the multiple roll of Euan Wilson, and Le Mans Winner Allan McNish on the podium with Johnny Adam.
