Brunton marvels in opening weekend!

Knockhill instructor Craig Brunton was obviously delighted with his opening race weekend of the season taking victory in both Formula Ford 1600 races at Knockhill Racing Circuit last weekend.

Brunton, who drove the first ever Ray GR09 to compete in a Scottish Formula Ford race managed a convincing 14 second victory in the opening race. However as conditions dried his team had to make a compromise on set up, which ultimately lead to a much closer race second time out. Former Scottish Mini Copper Champion Ken Thirlwall, competing in only his second Formula Ford race stayed glued to Brunton’s gearbox for all 10 laps finishing an impressive 2nd.

“I’m delighted with the way things went at the weekend, two poles and two victories, although Ken pushed me all the way to the line in the second race.

“I’m really pleased with the way l handled the pressure of the second race, if l’d made any mistakes then ken could have easily taken the victory.”

The 2010 Scottish Formula Ford Championship again sees Andrew Kirkcaldy’s CRS Team put up the prize of a Formula Renault Test for the champion and best newcomer. While Craig will be concentrating on the Scottish Championship for the 2010 season, he has shown a desire to compete in some other Northern and National Kent rounds.
