Butcher misses Spa GT4 pole by 5/000ths

Fifer Rory Butcher will start second on the grid for the latest round of the British GT4 Championship, the two-and-a-half-hour endurance test at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium tomorrow.

And the 22-year-old from Dunfermline, partnered by team-mate Ben Harvey in their Prestige Car Leasing KTM, only missed out on GT4 pole by less than five-hundredths of a second.

“How tough is that,” a frustrated Butcher admitted after the team clocked a best lap of 2m 40.606s round the famous Belgian Grand Prix circuit. “It certainly sets everything up for a fantastic race.

“This place is just awesome. I tested here a few weeks back and thought it was fantastic then. But to be on-track with all the other guy; wow!”

The Scot was edged off pole by the Ginetta G50 of championship leaders Christian Dick and Jamie Stanley.

The pole for the British GT Championship was taken by Peter Kox. The Dutchman lapped the circuit in 2:24.611s, six seconds inside the official lap record, at the wheel of his Lamborghini Gallardo.
