Ladies Track Night

Tuesday 17th August 2010 saw the first Ladies only motorcycle track night at Knockhill Racing Circuit. Bike Track Days and Evenings are for motorcyclists to enjoy the performance and handling of their machines in a safe and controlled environment.

Triple British Superbike champion and ex-Grand Prix rider Niall Mackenzie, who introduced the evening, said “You know there’s nothing coming the other way, and you know what’s around the corner, so this will really help you to learn more about your bike and improve your riding, helping you to become a safer, better all-round motorcyclist”.

With Scottish Under-18 F125 Champion, Sammi Tasker, in attendance with her Digby Brown GP125 Race bike (in shocking pink!), the girls also had the benefit of an inch-perfect 5-lap demonstration run.

The idea behind a Ladies Only evening came in part from the Scottish Breast Way Round campaign, which is a women bikers’ fund-raising initiative in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief. Said Shirley-Anne, campaign co-ordinator, “Many women have been reluctant to take their machines out on to the racetrack, perhaps just because of the word ‘racetrack’, so we thought if we had an evening just for the girls it would be more relaxed and we could persuade enough to come along to make it viable. We were absolutely delighted when Knockhill agreed, and also offered to donate all profits to Breast Way Round

All those who attended agreed that the evening was great fun, had helped their riding, and they would certainly like to come back for more!
