Brunton rises to Valencia challenge

Newly crowned Scottish Formula Ford Champion, Craig Brunton, got the chance to take his prize of a test drive in a Formula Renault at the Circuit de Valencia, Spain. Arriving on Sunday 12th to find a difference of 30o C in track temperature from Knockhill to Valencia! The prize was put up by Andrew Kirkaldy with his CRS Formula Renault team. Every year he puts up this prize for two up and coming drivers from the Scottish Single Seater class – Rory Butcher and Scott Fraser were past winners. Also out for the test this year was Ken Thirlwall as the winner of the Scottish Formula Ford Newcomer championship.
Craig said “To get this prize of a test drive with the CRS Formula Renault team at Valencia was awesome!. My driver coach was experienced GT driver Tim Mullin and Team Principal Paul Jackson was my engineer with Curtis the mechanic. It was a whole day of testing and after each session they downloaded all the data and we had a debrief. I learned so much from these guys. The day began with wet track conditions but it brightened up by the last session. The other test driver that day was Adam Carroll the GP2 champion who was carrying out some car developing and it was good to meet him a real down to earth guy who gave me good advice. He has just signed for Team Andretti in Indy Cars.
“I was happy with my progress given the wet conditions and improved in every session getting quicker and quicker to within a few seconds of the other drivers out that day”.
