Knockhill Club bike racing – Round 2

The 2nd Round of the Knockhill Motor Sports Club bike racing took place at the circuit today Sunday 8th May. The 12 race programme featured races from the BMW Motorrad Central backed Knockhill Superbikes and Superstock 600, Knockhill 400/Mini Twin/GP125, Clubman/Pre-injection 600 and the Classic/Formula 125s.

Honorary Club president Niall Mackenzie was also at Knockhill in two capacities today. Niall has been very eager to see all the Club members in action and also took the opportunity to give his son Tarran some valuable track time before he returns to compete in the BSB at Knockhill in June.

The day didn’t start to well for young Tarren though, following an off in the opening race. But despite a badly swollen hand the youngster, rode a fantastic 2nd race to claim his first ever Knockhill podium. Tarran, on board is Motorpoint Honda RS started at the back of the grid and managed to work his way through the field to claim a 3rd place finish and a GP125 class win.

Tarran said;

“I’m delighted with that, my hands a bit sore after the first race but l thought l’d just get my head down and get on with it. I was really only concentrating on my class and just trying to improve my lap times, but a podium is a nice bonus.”

Dad Niall and Club President commented;

“It’s been an excellent meeting, some fantastic racing and Tarran’s podium is the icing on the cake. We can all go away from today happy and that’s all you can ask for.”

Cumbrian rider, Mike McLean maintained his impressive record in the Superstock 600 class, having finished on the podium in all six outings this season. Bruce ‘the Barber’ Birnie put in an impressive display this afternoon, taking a hattrick of Superbike class wins on board his Carniegie Fuels sponsored BMW S1000RR machine.

There were also race victories for Roy Houston (Superstock 600), Ruairi Davidson & Paul McClung (both F125), Jordon Fleming (Minitwin), Roy Waugh & Graham Duncan (Clubman) and several other class victors too.

Roy Houston also wins the ‘Knox Rider of the Day’ and with it a pair of handroids and a back protector.

The next round of the Knockhill Motor Sports Club take place on the 25th June and we look forward to welcoming you all back to the Circuit for another fantastic event!
