MAZDA MANIA EXPECTED AT KNOCKHILL – July 2nd & 3rd

Racer fly’s in from Russia to compete in Ma5da races!

Sixty Five Mazda MX5’s will be racing at Knockhill Racing Circuit on July 2nd/3rd as the Ma5da Racing Championship heads North for the first time. 50 Mk1 and 15 Mk3 versions of the diminutive and classic Japanese sports car will feature for rounds 11,12 and 13 of their British Championships. The stylish racers visit all the major circuits in the UK, including Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Oulton Park, but Knockhill will provide a real test on the twists and turns of the Home of Scottish Motorsport.

John Cockburn-Evans works in Russia as a business advisor and will be making a special journey, flying direct to Edinburgh, to race his Mk1 version. Formula One might make the world notor sport headlines, but it also features with two other regulars, exiled Scot Scott Ferguson will be making the long journey north from the South Coast. The ex Williams F1 engineer hails originally from Aberdeenshire and is racing his Mk1. Possibly the most exotic racer is Lucas Fubberto who’s day job is working for the McLaren Formula One team as part of their design squad.

One of the busiest racers is race co-ordinator Jonathan Blake who will have SIX RACES over the weekend as he competes in both a Mk1 and Mk3 races. Jonathan is very familiar with Knockhill having had several outings previously, but is not relishing the physical challenge as he will have competed in two full hours of racing, plus qualifying and testing, and he is expecting to be aching come Monday morning!

Elsewhere is a busy action packed weekend, the Northern Saloons from Croft will feature with guest races. The modified racers feature highly modified saloons and sports cars, many of which are similar in pace to the British Touring Car Championships.

A full array of SMRC Championship classes also feature with the American style Legends, Celtic Speed Mini Coopers, Fiestas & STi’s, Classics Sports and Saloons and the Scottish Formula Ford single seaters all completing an action packed  two day race programme.

Adult admission is £5.00 on Saturday 2nd July and £12.00 on Sunday 3rd July, concessions £6.00 and under 12’s are free of charge.
