Around 40 cyclists take to Knockhill for some track time

Knockhill and Enable Scotland threw open the Kockhill Circuit for a cycling session yesterday. Cyclists of all ages and abilities took to the tarmac to sample the thrill of riding on what is possibly the most famous piece of tarmac in Scotland!

A real mixture of people turned out for the 1pm start, weekend cyclists, junior cyclists and even a few brave souls attempted to cycle the track on BMXs and choppers. Everyone was given the opportunity to ride up to 6 laps clockwise, before sampling the track anti clockwise for three laps. The vote afterwards was that the clockwise direction was better for ‘pedal power’ although it was up to 30 seconds quicker going the other way!

Circuit Director Stuart Gray said:

“What a great sight, to see so many riders of all ages on track, it’s a nice warm up for the 24hr Challenge in October. The serious riders will now have an idea of what is in store in three weeks time for the Cycle the World event with Mark Beaumont. I am sure the event will be a real hit and potentially become an annual event.

“The kids on the BMX and Choppers were certainly game for the laugh too, I’m pretty sure they all slept very well on Saturday night. We hope that this event will lead to others next year. There is a lot of potential at Knockhill for cyclists, off track ground and even the possibility of riding up and down the famous hill. Hopefully in time we could become a real feature venue within the adventure cycling calendar.”

Entries are still available for the Cycle the World event on the 5th / 6th October, anyone wishing to enter should check out http://www.cycletheworld.org.uk/ or phone Enable Scotland on 0141 225 1680.
