Last Saturday (7th Feb) we swapped our motorsports hat for running shoes and a mountain bike, as we hosted the 2nd leg of the Chequered Flag Duathlon Series.

The running and cross country mountain biking race incorporated a 2 lap run around Knockhills 1.3 mile racing circuit, a 10 km off road mountain bike course using the outer land of the venue and 1 lap run around the circuit to the finish line in the pit lane. Competitors of varying levels took part, from budding athletes to fun runners!

The cross country cycle proved to be a real challenge with the soaked muddy land and hilly nature of the Knockhills perimeter areas, creating a true test of will and determination for the competitors.

Ewan Taylor from the Army Triathlon Club took the overall honours with an incredible time of 44.01 minutes and Michelle Mackay from Monifieth Triathlon Club was the first female to cross the finish line in a superb time of 53.44 minutes.

Feedback:

“So, everything was top notch! I liked the traffic light start, I loved the cycling chicanes through the stands (nice touch), and the stair climb was good fun. Marshals: fantastic! The results were ready really quickly, and the presentation nice and quick. The beer is always welcome! Cheers!” Jim Hardie – Duathlon Competitor
