Haslam crashes out whilst Buchan tops the time sheets

Fastest man from this morning’s Free Practice session, Leon Haslam managed just 15 laps of the afternoon’s session before tipping off at Duffus Dip. The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider subsequently missed out the remainder of the session. Haslam did make it back to the garage before the session’s end but would have been frustrated at not being able completed his full programme ahead of DataTag Extreme Qualifying tomorrow.

With 15 minutes left on the session, Haslam would have been content enough with P3 on the times, but as usual with BSB the action was only just beginning. With an incredible 10 riders posting times below the current lap record and into the 47 second bracket; with the likes of Dixon, Buchan and Linfoot all showing good pace it was only a matter of time before the times tumbled even further as the riders let loose in those last few minutes.

As the time ticked down the timing screens began to bob and weave with flashes of purple and green appearing up and down the listings. However, with minutes to go Danny Buchan fired his FS-3 Kawasaki to the top of the timesheets with the fastest recorded time around Knockhill’s twisty track on 2-wheels – a stunning 47.473 second effort. Jake Dixon further improved his time to reach within 0.005s of Buchan’s time and despite a number of promising laps in the dying moments, couldn’t quite pip his good friend to the top of the timing screens.

There were also notable jumps up the order in the closing moments for Josh Brookes (P12), Andrew Irwin (P7) and Glenn Irwin – who left it very late to dip into that 47sec bracket to leapfrog his brother into P6 on the order.

The finishing order was as follows:

That sets up a very intriguing Bennetts BSB qualifying session, up tomorrow at 4pm. With less than a second covering the top 17 riders, we may well see some big guns eliminated in the knockout style elimination process of Datatag Extreme Qualifying.
