Off the back of the 2020 announcement of
the McRae Rally Challenge event once again coming back to Knockhill to
celebrate the 25th anniversary of Colin McRae’s World Rally
Championship success in 1995 – we had legendary rally driver Walter Röhrl at
the circuit a few months back and we managed to grab the 14-time WRC winner,
and Group B rallying icon, for a quick chat.
And yes, we have asked Walter if he’s be
interested in coming back to Scotland to compete in the 2020 event in either an
Audi Quattro or Lancia, however only time will tell on that front.
Interestingly, Jimmy McRae and Walter were teammates back in the eighties and
the lure of a rendezvous with Jimmy and a tour of Scotland in his classic
Porsche in 2020 might be an intriguing proposition for the former WRC title
winner.
The event itself, will feature a rally
forum with star names in attendance, parades and displays of Colin’s cars – the
events committee aim to gather the largest gathering of McRae cars ever seen in
Scotland and are currently sourcing cars all over the globe. Elsewhere, there
will be rally action in and around the Knockhill venue and some special
exhibits from the Group B era will be on display and demonstrated for fans.
Plans for the event will be worked on
over the coming months, but it is expected that tickets for the event will be
released at the beginning of November. Stay tuned to all our social channels
