SMRC Ready for the off!

The Scottish Motor Racing Club will open the 2021 Calendar of Events at Knockhill this weekend – Sunday 6th June. It’s been a long wait for race fans to get back trackside at Knockhill and we are delighted that our capacity has risen in the past few days to 1000 spectators.

We had sold out of our initial allocation until the government announced that Fife would move to Level 1 from Saturday 5th June. That prompted us to add on additional tickets for the Sunday 6th June event. Tickets can be booked online via the Knockhill website. All tickets must be pre-booked as there will be no allocation for gate purchases.

Additionally, there will also be some Covid-19 protocols in place, namely the closure of the main paddock to race fans. This will also include access to the Paddock Cafe & Bar, however, Kinnaird’s Bistro will be open for spectators to use.

A healthy grid of SMRC racers have signed up for opening meeting of the year with several familiar names returning to the fold. This weekend’s entry has also been bolstered by the visiting Avon Tyres National Formula Ford Championship and the Northern Saloons and Sports Car Championship will also compete this weekend.

A super-slick timetable of Practice/Qualifying will get underway at approximately 8:35am on Sunday 6th June. Race action will commence at around 11am – with the  Scottish MINI Cooper Cup / MINI Cooper S Cup racers heading out onto track for the first race of the day.

The race action will continue all the way through to 5:30pm. So, if you’ve been itching to get out and do something since the end of lockdown, head along to Knockhill this weekend and enjoy a full-on day of Scottish Championship car racing action. The racers have been waiting patiently for this event to come around and now it’s finally here we expect the action to be enthralling and highly competitive.

The action is always fast and frantic on SMRC event days, and with a superb driver line-up across the classes we hope that fans will be out in force to encourage their favourite racers from their favourite spots around Knockhill.

It’s great to be finally kicking off the 2021 motor racing season at Knockhill.
